An amazing post-MOTHERLOAD panel discussion for the Clonakilty Bicycle Film Festival: cargo bike moms, architects/urban planners, bike advocates, environmentalists and local government.
How to Host a Virtual MOTHERLOAD EVENT
An exciting post-MOTHERLOAD panel discussion hosted by Scott Urban and Liz Sawyer of Oxfordshire Livable Streets and including the amazing leader of Waltham Forest Borough Council (aka "Mini-Holland), Claire Coghill.
Because the of the need for social distancing, many are hosting Virtual MOTHERLOAD Events, with post-film discussions via video-conference. These online gatherings are a great way to reaffirm connections while clarifying our shared vision for a better future. Hosts can design their own panel featuring city council members, cycling advocates, sustainability and urban planning experts (from anywhere in the world), and even include the filmmaker if desired :).
My hope is that watching and discussing MOTHERLOAD with local advocates will generate an urgent desire to prioritize livable streets, strong communities, and more access to nature in our lives and hometowns.
how does a Virtual COMMUNITY SCREENING work?
Email me about when you want to schedule your event and if you’d like me to participate in a post-film Q&A.
Purchase a MOTHERLOAD community screening license based on the estimated size of your audience. If you’d like me to do a live Q&A, purchase that as well.
Create an event page (using platform like EventGroove or EventBrite), sell tickets, and gather email addresses.
Before the event, you and I (and any other cycling advocates, city council members, sponsors or sustainability gurus you’ve invited) will do a dress rehearsal of our presentation on your chosen video conferencing platform.
Three days before your event, I will send you a password-protected link to the film to share with your registered attendees. The audience will thus have about 48 hours to watch the film before gathering for your Q&A.
If you would like to add a video introduction before the film, you must record that and send it to me 6 days before your event. I will insert it before MOTHERLOAD begins and then re-upload the movie file.
We’ve had such thoughtful, hopeful conversations. Join us! Email me!

Reactions to MOTHERLOAD Virtual Events in a Post-COVID World:
“I’ve heard from a number of people how much they loved the film and discussion …They all said how incredibly powerful and inspirational MOTHERLOAD is, how helpful they found the discussion, and that your words last night gave them a number of ideas and approaches to implement policy and infrastructure changes.”
—Alison LeFiore, AICP Senior Planner
“Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow!!!! We watched the movie tonight and we LOVED it….It is SO timely. MOTHERLOAD needs to be seen right now…while mother nature has us on a global timeout….I am really blown away.”
—Kelly Peterson, Leadership Consultant
“Liz, I think your film is top class - I really love it and also enjoyed the post-film panel discussion….In my mind there is undoubtedly a very strong alignment between the messages in the film and the mission of the European Cycling Federation and its member groups….I’d be more than happy to explore further possibilities within ECF.”
—Damien O’Tuama, former Vice President, European Cycling Federation
“If you're wondering how we can do more post-covid-19 than just get back to "normal," but actually make a better world--watch this movie!…The film is about bicycling--yes, but also visionary dreams, sensory joy, soul-health, our struggle to escape the entrapment of technology, a way out of a consumption-based existence and more...”
—Ted White, Keene State College
“Your film is making a difference, even here: I have an Advisor…loves to ride…(but) his wife won't ride. Until now! She was so inspired by the film, she wants to test ride the pedal-assist bikes and get one. This is big change in a person's life (and will help our org & mission) ..... "just" from watching your film.”
—Anne Thomas, Shasta Living Streets
“Liz, your film really was uplifting…it shows such a clear set of solutions and also provides hope that there really is a movement of people who are just getting on with the everyday change that it takes….”
—Liz Sawyer, Oxfordshire Livable Streets
